If you've not cooked or run a household before, then our two week course is for you. This intense course covers everything, from the basics of cooking to how to prepare a Christmas dinner. We'll train you how to run a chalet like clock-work and give you all the skills you need to prepare sumptuous meals each and every day whilst still enjoying plenty of free time to make the most of your amazing mountain environment.
The course includes cleaning your chalet, basic chalet maintenance, menu planning, writing shopping lists and cooking within a budget.
You will finish the course as a capable and confident chalet host, able to give your guests the best possible chalet experience. Your guests will set off for the slopes each day, after a hearty breakfast, knowing that they will return after their day's skiing to a welcoming afternoon tea and looking forward to their top-class evening dinner, presented by their smiling and efficient chalet host!
We put aside time on the two week course to help you secure a chalet host job. We will assist you with writing your CV, cover letter and advise you on how to put together a menu plan to submit with your chalet job applications. To this end, it is very helpful if you have a go at composing your CV and cover letter before attending, and bring a laptop with you so that we can edit and enhance them during your course.
During your two weeks at The Hive, you will have three afternoons off to enjoy the activities on offer nearby. You could choose to go white water rafting, paragliding, mountain biking, horse riding… the list goes on! We'll help you to choose and book your excursion with trusted local suppliers. You will also have at least one chance to enjoy an evening meal at a local restaurant.
Even if you're not looking for a job as a chalet host, if you have just left school or university and want to learn to cook and look after yourself, you will find this a very useful course. We have had several students join the two-week course with no intention of working in a chalet, but they have all thoroughly enjoyed their time with us and left having learnt lots of useful life skills.
